Temples of Prayagraj

According to Matsya Puran the three deities of the Hindu Dharma i.e. Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh reside in the temples of Prayagraj.

Bhagwan Vishnu is worshipped as Madhav at Prayagraj.

Sri Triveni Madhav: Triveni Madhav is apparently present at the holy Sangam in the form of water. Kalpavasis worship Triveni Madav during the month of Magh. During this time the planting of Tulsi plant outside their tents is symbolic as the Tulsi plant is considered to be a replica of Bhagwan Vishnu.

The three important temples of Prayagraj where Bhagwan Vishnu are:

  • ADI MADHAV TEMPLE: located near Someshwer Ji temple in Arail.
  • SRI BENI MADHAV TEMPLE: located in Daraganj.
  • SHANKH MADHAV TEMPLE: located in Daraganj.

In the famous Patalpuri temple situated at the Allahabad Fort, there are two statues of Bhagwan Vishnu. These statues are also known as Bindhu Madhav and Anant Madhav.

As per the Mahabharth, Prayagraj was considered to be an important centre for Nag Pujan.

The two important temples of Nag Pujan are:

  • NAG VASUKI TEMPLE: located in Daraganj on the banks of Ma Ganga. The statue of the Nag & Nagin pre dates 10th century AD.
  • BALDAUJI or SHESNAGA MANDIR: located between Naga Vasuki mandir and Shivkuti.

Prayagraj is considered as the 108 Divya (divine) Kshetras (area) of Shivji. He is believed to reside in Prayagraj as Vat Vriksha (Banyan tree).

Prayagraj is considered 51 shakti peeth of Devi Ji.

The temples of Prayagraj are:

  • LALITA DEVI SHAKTI PEETH: situated in Alopi Bagh Daraganj
  • ALOPI SHANKARI DEVI: situated in Alopi Bagh Daraganj
  • KARA BHAWANI MANDIR: situated in Kara 40 miles from Prayagraj on the Ganga

Prayagraj is considered 21 main Ganpati area, known as Omkar Ganpatkshetra.

Patalpuri Mandir located in the Fort and has three statues of Bhagwan Ganesh.

Hanumanji is deeply worshiped at the temples of Prayagraj.
